Mathematics

During this half term the children will be learning about Number Sense.

Learning will include:

Dodgeball: To develop throwing towards a moving target, to develop catching skills and to identify and develop the skills needed to avoid being hit.

Rounders: To develop fielding skills to limit the batter's score, to understand the role of a bowler and to develop an understanding of tactics and begin to use them in game situations.

During this half term the children will be learning about Reconciliation 

 

Learning will include:

  • The Big Question:  Is it easier to forgive or to say sorry?
  • The children will be given opportunities to say if they think forgiving is easy or hard to do
  • They will listen to and retell one of Jesus’ stories about forgiveness  and answer questions about feelings of characters in the stories and their own feelings
  • The children will also be making simple links between the stories and Jesus’ teaching about forgiveness giving a reason for a link.
  • We will focus on the Sacrament of Reconciliation and the children will need to explain in detail the order and importance.

During this half term the children will be learning: Gymnastics and Athletics

In Gymnastics, learning will include: a focus on improving their gymnastic movements, they will develop the basic skills of rolling, jumping, balancing and sequence work.

Year 3

Mathematics

During this half term the children will be learning about Fractions.

Learning will include:

  • Describing part-whole relationship and exploring unit fractions
  • Unit fractions with the explanation of understanding the fraction of denominator and numerator 
  • Non-unit fractions and consolidate their understanding of the language of numerator and denominator.
  • Finding fractions of quantities in context using a variety of representations, including the use of a bar model   
  • Compare and order fractions with the same denominator.
  • Children will apply this to compare unit fractions.

During this half term children will be learning about an Inspirational Scientist

Animals Including Humans

Learning will include:

  •  Name the nutrients found in food.
  • State that to be healthy we need to eat the right types of food to give us the correct amount of these nutrients. 
  • Name some bones that make up the skeleton giving examples that support, help them move or provide protection.
  • Describe how muscles and joints help them to move. Classify food groups (high/low nutrients), answer q’s about nutrients in food, use data to look for patterns. Give similarities and differences between skeletons.

At the end of term, we will be going to Kew Gardens to end our Science topic.

The children will be learning about Textiles: Egyptian Collars

Learning will include:

  • Demonstrate their ability to use cross-stitch as a decorative feature or to join two pieces of fabric together.
  • Develop appliqué designs based on design criteria.
  • Design, cut and shape their template for an usekh or wesekh collar with increasing accuracy.
  • Decorate their Egyptian collar using a variety of techniques, such as appliqué, cross-stitch, beads, buttons and pinking.
  • Measure and attach a ribbon with a running stitch.
  • Recognise different types and qualities of fabrics.
  • Explain the aesthetic and functional properties of some of their material choices.
