Week Beginning January 29th

English

In English lessons we are continuing to read 'The Journey' by Francesca Sanna and we are building up to find out what is beyond the wall and what else they will discover on their journey.
In Grammar we will be looking at Relative Clauses and continuing to focus on basic punctuation.

Maths 

In Mrs McConigley's Maths group she will be continuing to focus on angles and finding angles in a triangle.
In Miss Thornton's Maths group we will be looking at fractions - simplifying fractions, equivalent fractions and adding and subtracting fractions with different denominators.

R.E.

In R.E. this week we will be continuing to look at the story of Exodus and creating a newspaper article.

Maths
In Miss Thornton's group we are working on multiplying and dividing decimals by 10, 100 and 1000
In Mrs McConigleys group we are working on adding fractions

English
In Miss Thornton's group we are planning and writing a biography. Focussing on Adverbs of Time and features of biographies.
In Mrs McConigleys group we are working on adverbs and subordinate clauses to support our writing.

RE
In RE we are focussing on Advent - a time for preparing and Lectio Divina, which is a Sacred Prayer

English
We are building up to write our first Big Write - a Greek Myth based on Odysseus' story.
Focus on extended writing, punctuation, speech, parenthesis and using grammar and spellings accurately.

Maths
In Mrs McConigley's Maths group we are continuing on with the short method (bus stop method) of division. Confidence and fluency with the times tables is a necessity.

RE
We are continuing to develop our knowledge of the sacrement of Confirmation

Week beginning 9/10

English:
We are continuing on with our Power of Reading book - Odysseus - and building up to our Big Write which is a narrative.
In Guided Reading we are focussing on The Street Child as a whole class text with differentiated tasks.

Maths:
Miss Thornton's Maths group will be continuing on with Subtraction methods - problem solving and reasoning. Also subtraction of money, with a focus on decimal places.

Mrs Mc Conigley's maths group are focussing on division, so times tables knowledge is a necessity.

RE:
We are continuing to learn about and focus on Confirmation as our Sacrament of Initiation

In Science last week Peter shared his knowledge of The Moon landing with the children. He shared newspaper articles and collectors items from that era, the children thoroughly enjoyed it

English
We are continuing to read the story of Odyssseus this week and really enjoyed the chapter about the Cyclops - it was very gory! We made some story maps to help us remember the chapter and to retell it orally.
Maths
In Maths this week we are learning about negative numbers and adding powers of 10 to any number. We have also been looking at various methods written methods for subtraction.
R.E.
We have been immersing ourselves into the topic of 'Beginning with the Church'. We have been writing letters to welcome new students and teachers to our school. These included words, actions and symbols that we associated with welcome. We focussed on the word 'initiation' and what it means to us.
